My Therapeutic Approach

My therapeutic approach is compassionate, strength-based, insightful, and hopeful. I believe you hold the answers to your healing and development inside you, and it is an honor to walk beside you in the process of uncovering those answers. I also believe in the strength and potential of relationships (even if the relationships don’t feel that way at this moment!), and I look to current and past relationships to help in the process of understanding and change. I draw from a range of psychological and family systems theories and approaches depending upon the issues being addressed and what seems to be a good match for your personality and/or relationship dynamics. In working with individuals, I draw from client-centered, solution-focused, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. With couples, I draw from Emotionally-Focused Therapy, family systems, attachment theory, and the research of John Gottman and Stan Tatkin. In addressing issues around intimacy, I appreciate the perspectives of Emily Nagoski, David Schnarch, Esther Perel, and Vanessa Marin.
